The Harpist and His Problems |
| Summary: |
This article was reprinted from the 1940 Etude Music Magazine, Theodore Presser Company.
Grandjany writes that the harpist's first concern is tone which requires great coordination between the inner spirit and the physical, more so for the harp than for any other instrument. Pressure tone, pressing on the strings before releasing them is the first thing a harpist must develop. Grandjany goes on to explain how the pedals work and the importance of muffling. He recommends exploring early harp repetoire from the 17th and 18th centuries. He says that American students are very talented, but lack patience- to learn music takes time.
